FFI - Apples & Oranges

FFI - Apples and OrangesRecorded in a garage over a single weekend in June of 2001, Apples & Oranges effectively captures the differing sides of FFI's music. The self-depreciating, yet socially conscious songs remind you that this isn't your average dumb punk rock trio. Goin' Back to Hicksville and 409 illustrate the twinges of heartbreak and plaintive longing which give this band depth, but they also have strong punk rock roots as illustrated by D. Boon, a tribute to the revolutionary Minutemen guitarist/vocalist who was killed in a 1985 auto accident.

By addressing America's questionable value system and the senseless violence that has been the result, the future mosh-pit anthem In The Rye segues perfectly into the raging Take More. The heartfelt, but sometimes indecipherable, lyrics are punctuated with Eric Metzger's caustic screams and blazing guitar, while the messages are shrouded under a heavy haze of thudding bass, courtesy of Chris "Wiz" Wieczorkowski, and Gary (you might remember him as Scrubby!) Wright's thundering drums.

Heavy stuff, but not without a necessary sense of humor. This is what rock and roll is supposed to be... uncompromisingly earnest, astutely aware and alive with passion. Get a copy from local label Big Lizard Records.
