![]() The Heroines Reunion February 13, 2004 - Matteo's Restaurant & Underground Lounge (in the Boulder Dam Hotel), Boulder City, NV
Former Las Vegan Brendon Massei (of Spork and Supperbell Roundup) played a few songs to warm up the crowd in the small basement bar before The Heroines took to the stage for what ending up being the final rehearsal before their Double Down reunion show. The five song set was short and fierce, just like they were 8 years ago. Then we drank, danced, played the piano and prowled around the basement of the hotel while Jennifer puked in the hotel room. We never found our way to the purportedly haunted wine-cellar, but there were a few other unexplainable experiences. Lastly, are those ghostly apparitions in these photos or are we just chain smokers? You decide.
SIDE A SIDE B
SUPER SIDE
Standard, riffy mid-tempo punk - but the real distinction comes with the screamed female vocals abetted by a solid sense of humor. The simple production makes "Where's Dudley Now" sound almost like a slice of rough, '78-ish punk - which is fine in my book; but the real standout is the title track -- a hilarious, near non-stop set of screams set to a catchy guitar riff. Loose, fun, and pressed on cool pink vinyl. (SS) |
